 Good for kids 5-10 years oldMay 03, 2008

My 9 year old daughter received this game for her Birthday. She loves the game. It also goes along with what they are studying in school as they are studying Africa in Social Studies right now. The graphics are good and there are lots of different animals to find and discover. The sounds of the animals are also good and their actions are kind of fun to watch too (espicially if you get too close to them). I would say this game is good for the 5-10 year old range. For kids younger than that, the controls might be a bit too difficult and finding some of the animals may get too frustrating. For kids older than that, I think they would probably get bored with the game unless they are really into animals. The missions take you to different areas of Africa where you need to find certain animals and take pictures of them to go into the final report. The final report is very informative, but I don't think most kids will even bother reading it. The mini games are cute, but pretty simple. Overall a good game for the age range it is intended for.

Wild Earth African Safari is a fun and educational game about wildlife living in its natural habitat. Your mission is to take pictures of animals - observing them while not disturbing their environment.
The graphics are great, as the animals look very real, not cartoony. The facts given on the animals are very informative and entertaining. The narration is really easy to listen to.
My 8-year-old son loves it, and can usually find the animals faster than I can. He plays with his 6-year-old sister in cooperative mode. He does the walking (or driving) and she takes pictures. It is a great game for them to play together.
The mini games are fun! Our favorite game is a challenge to wash off as many muddy animals as you can with your elephant trunk!

I agree with some of the other reviewers about a couple of things with this game:
1) I get frustrated when I am wandering around the African jungle looking for a tiger in a tree and I can't find it. Or I can't figure out how to get to where the giraffe and elephants are sleeping. There needs to be a "help" screen you can go to when you get stuck.
2) When I first started playing, I really began to feel the effects of motion sickness! You have to control the camera (Wii remote) movements so you aren't racing around in circles and feeling nauseous.
This game can be a lot of fun. I appreciate the challenge when I finally figure out how to get down those cliffs, waterfalls and hills to the other side.
I don't think this game is for "Everyone", because I could see younger children giving up during those long stretches where you can't find the vulture sitting and you aren't given anything else to look for, and the guides aren't talking. There is only so long you can listen to chirping crickets without giving up in frustration.
I don't like that when you find something out of order, you don't get credit for it if you take a picture of it.
Other than those little complaints, I really do like the game. When I'm accidentally bumping into white rhinos, lions, a porcupine, or elephants, or having them charge me my heart races like I really need to get away fast, LOL). It's fun finding things and seeing the animals performing like they would in their natural habitat. The "marking their territory" comes to mind. How authentic.
I gave the game 4 stars only for the frustration factor that would make it hard for younger children to really enjoy it.

Finally a real Wii E for Everyone game!Jun 06, 2009

First - Hard core gamers will probably hate this game. In this case the E for everyone rating will have to stand for everyone else - which amazingly it does. Usually the E rating on a game means the content is okay for little kids, but it also usually means that the game will quickly bore you to tears if you're not a little kid anymore. This game breaks that mold.
Hard core gamers would probably be quick to label this game as slow-moving, easy to beat, not challenging, and not very exciting. But for those of us with little kids we want to learn about nature or older relatives we like to entertain; this game is a must!
While the graphics are far from perfect, players (and spectators) get a pretty good view of the different animals involved while the narrorator gives details about the animals' different traits or behaviors. This makes the game a fun learning tool for people of any age. The action of the game is not terribly complex - one hand to move your character, the other hand to point your camera and take pictures. This is good as it lets younger children or older family members learn to play without much difficulty. The game pace is medium to slow, encouraging the player to look around and investigate, and it's almost impossible to "die" unless you are determined to make your character play chicken with a rhino or something. The safari arcade games you unlock with each completed mission are great for kids or adults alike at parties.
Put simply, this game really is for Everyone. I'd recommend it for churches, nursing homes, day cares, classrooms, or anywhere people who are not hard core gamers would be playing a game. This is really something a grandparent avoiding the computer-age could still sit down with and play with their technically advanced five year old grandkid.

It was fun, but then frustratingAug 30, 2008

I got this game because I am a fan of Endless Ocean, I hoped it would be like that. When I put the game on and started playing it was really fun. There's action and suspense but it's also good for smaller children. But when I finished the first level, a box came up saying I failed the mission and I clicked OK thinking it would save my photos and let me do the level over again. It didn't! Basically if you don't get all the pictures taken, you have to start all over again. So I thought I would do it later and play some of the mini games, it wouldn't let me! So again, I have to complete a level to get a mini game. So at this rate, it'll take me a wile to finish one level and get a mini game. Overall, I give this game 4 stars.
