5The O-Ring Gets Silicone...Apr 03, 2008
By plasticlizard
Awhile back my watch battery died so I needed a new one. I remembered seeing a quick repair shop for watches at the mall so off I went. When I got there I asked the man if he could replace my watch battery and he said yes and to return in ten minutes it would be ready. So I handed him my watch and went window shopping for a few. I returned some time later and picked it up.

A few days later I got to thinking "what kind of condition is the o-ring in and did it need any lubrication?". After a few more days of wondering I said to myself "I have to find out!!!" Looking at the back of the watch I noticed I would need a special kind of tool to remove the back. So I got on the internet and after searching for a bit found one with good reviews. After nine dollars plus shipping and a couple days of waiting it came in the mail.

Now I was ready and it was time to inspect the o-ring. As I was getting everything together I had a chance to inspect the case opener tool.

The case tool also comes with four different keys that fit four different casebacks. I easily figuring out which ones would fit mine so I proceeded to put them into the case opener tool itself. The keys snapped perfectly in place. Very similar to a wrench and socket but reverse. Now matter what position the wrench is in the keys will not fall out.

After unscrewing the caseback I noticed right away that the o-ring was bone dry!

Good thing I had some silicone in the garage.

I lubricated the o-ring and cleaned up the areas that would come in contact with the o-ring.

I put the o-ring back in it's rightful place and gave the caseback a few turns with my hand until it seated. I gave the caseback a snug fit with the caseback tool but not too tight!

Now the o-ring is lubricated and in good shape making the watch truly waterproof.

Mission Accomplished!

If I had to rate the watch caseback tool I would have to give it 5 out 5. It works as advertised and well worth the money. If your interested in lubricating o-rings or putting new batteries in your watch then this tool is for you.

Very nice tool for the price. While I am sure the "pro's" use something that costs 10 times this, don't let that stop you from buying this one. It works, and it appears to be of high quality. I purchased this because I have more than a few Swiss Army Watches, and I hate taking them in for batteries..some places won't touch them. Not wanting to spend a fortune to find out I could not open the backs myself, I invested in this tool. Within half an hour of getting this in the mail (free super saver shipping) I had opened all 3 watches that need a battery, without a scratch to the back of my beloved S.A. watches. Yes I am happy with this purchase..whenever I can do something myself instead of paying too much to someone else to do it..I get happy. In my opinion, a good quality tool.

5Great Customer ServiceMay 22, 2008

I am most impressed with Goldfinger Jewelry. I ordered this case back remover and it was shipped promptly but the device was defective. I called Goldfinger and left a message. Within an hour or so Al Farrell (the owner, I presume) called back to find out what was wrong. They immediately shipped a new unit by Priority Mail and did not even request a return of the defective unit. The new unit works fine and easily opened the two waterproof cases that I have tested so far.

Please note that adjusting the tool requires two operations. First, rotate the wheel to move the two outer teeth in place, then rotate the handle of the tool to bring the third tooth in to place on the third indent in the watch case. This is not spelled out in the instructions.

Solid quality and easy to use. One of the fittings hard to insert.I recommend buying the case closer press to complete your set.
Amazon should have suggested the press as part of the complete set and save me extra shipping.

5This Will Save Me $$$Dec 30, 2008

I couldn't be more pleased with this purchase. This tool is exactly what I needed to replace batteries in all the watches I had sitting in my dresser drawer. I've re-batteried 3 watches already and the tool has paid for itself. Low-cost batteries are readily found at "Your best buys" place in the San Jose area.
