Each KidSpeak language includes 12 printable activities and projects to reinforce the language learning. KidSpeak was designed and developed by leading educators to take advantage of the intuitive language learning abilities of grade school children. KidSpeak's innovative award-winning approach has no drills, tests or anything unpleasant. Children simply look forward to "playing" with their animated friends every day, while you know they are "learning". Awards * New York Festival's Interactive Multimedia Competition for the Best Educational/Instructional Programs produced for use in Schools * K-12 Educational CD-ROM award at the 4th Annual International Digital Media Awards "The designers have achieved their aim of making the program fun, challenging, absorbing and entertaining" - The Age, November 1997 It really works! Your child will build a solid foreign language foundation using the successful immersion approach preferred by educators. Each language is hosted by a fun cartoon "friend" and his or her playful pet who use only the language being taught. Your child simply points and clicks. With KidSpeak, your child will automatically learn correct pronunciation, alphabet and word recognition, simple sentence structure, plural and singular forms, numbers, simple addition and subtraction, how to tell time, and much more. The Sooner A Child Starts Learning A New Language The Better. Here's Why: As a parent, if you want your child to take advantage of the language-learning "window of opportunity", you must take an active role. There is no better tool than your computer and KidSpeak to start your child on a second language. With KidSpeak, your child can interact with authentic foreign language sounds, words and phrases, games, puzzles, and songs. If you can place a disc in your computer's CD-ROM drive, that's all you need to know to get your child off and running in another language.

5excellent programSep 30, 2009
By Rinxen
My daughter, age 8, LOVES this program. She thinks of it as a game. The little animations interspersed throughout keep it engaging. I love that she's learning correct pronunciation from native speakers. The audio is clear and high-quality. Even though this program doesn't teach a lot of French in terms of quantity(a few hundred vocabulary words, letters, and numbers) she's gaining valuable exposure to the sounds of French at the age when she's able to absorb and reproduce them. That will be invaluable to her later study of the language. I also appreciate that there's no English or translation involved in the interface unless you click on the "help" button--the program provides a mini-immersion experience.

5My kid is hooked.Oct 11, 2005

For better or for worse. My kid cannot stay away from the program which he think is just plain fun! It may not make him a fluent French speaker, but sure get him started.

3Not a game to learn FrenchJul 16, 2010
By Bibby
Anticipating a "fun" way for kids to learn French, we are a bit disappointed as it is difficult to understand what to do in each section, and it is basic memorization. Other language programs we have used in the past for Spanish were set up like a game and they wanted to play them, however this is more of a chore. However, it is better than simply an audio CD.

3Disappointed - immersion not done well (no cues)Jan 04, 2012
By Kallenford "Kallenford"
I bought this program for my 6-year-old to play by herself while I finished out my workday at home after she returns from school. I suppose I can't complain because the program states it uses the immersion method, but I thought it would give more cues (like a picture of a butterfly, and someone saying in French "A butterfly. There is a butterfly.") Instead, it just launches into full French with very little context or vocabulary practice to help understand what is being said. My daughter knows some French, but she was quickly annoyed because she had no idea what was being said or how to play other than randomly clicking icons. The only way the program is useful is if I sit with her and explain everything, which was not I had hoped for. Graphics and games are also very basic.
