 Engaging Learning CD in a Rare LanguageJun 03, 2005

First of all, finding any Tamazight learning resources was a pleasant surprise. The Eurotalk CD features learning beginning words and phrases in Tamazight. The learner can choose from several categories: Beginning words, phrases, food, shopping, numbers, telling time, colors, human body parts, etc. In each category two video speakers pronounce each word. You can have the word repeated as many times as you like. For each word, the learner sees a picture or icon for the word and a written translation of the word. You can quiz yourself with two different quiz functions (easy and hard). You can also record yourself for playback to compare to a native speaker's recording. The software also keeps track of your scores on the quizzes.
I find the program engaging, fun, and very nonthreatening. One little issue with the CD is I'm convinced the male speaker and the female speaker have slightly different accents, which makes it a little tricky when you are trying to determine correct pronunciation.

I purchased this because I was dating someone that spoke Tamazight and I wanted to surprise him. I then was surprised myself to find out there are 3 dialects and this one does not state which one this is.
Furthermore this really needed phonetic subtext because the speaker spoke too quickly for a learner to understand the nuances. There was no review of how the language is put together or the basics, you're just thrown into sentences that sound very formal.
I was not happy with this product at all and wish I'd never spent the money.
