5Great for the priceJan 22, 2009
By S. Allen
These little speakers are great for the price. They are plenty loud, and the sound is pretty good.

The only thing I wish I would have known is that the AC/DC power adapter that comes with it is one that plugs into a USB port on a computer. We were hoping to be able to use the speakers in rooms where there is not a computer, so we had to buy a power adapter that plugs into the wall (which was more expensive than the speakers themselves).

3A baffling surprise....Feb 02, 2010
By raveradio
This no-name device comes with no directions, and when I opened the box, I wasn't sure if this was the same thing I ordered. I was expecting something I could plug my iPod into and play in the park, on the beach, etc. But I could not find either the 3.5mm connection cord, nor could I figure out the battery situation (it comes with a USB cable for power). Obviously, hooking it up to my computer defeats the purpose, as my computer already has speakers. It took quite some tinkering before figuring out that you have to slide out the bottom piece, at which time the 3.5mm connection cord will pop out. You then re-attach the tray to the front side so you can place your MP3 player within. With that tray removed from the backside, you can access the area where the batteries go.

No, I'm definitely not the most technical person, but I have to imagine (or at least hope, for my own sake) that these tips will save someone else the hassle.

Now that I've finally gotten it to work the way I want, it's definitely not a bad piece for $5! The sound isn't great, but for $5, no complaints either.

5The Best $2 I've Ever SpentMar 23, 2010
By Eric Zhang "EZ"
Don't look at the price of these speakers and assume that they are junk. Because, well, they aren't. Speaking about the speakers while disregarding the price, they sound pretty darn good. Highs are nailed, and mids are surprisingly warm. Voice and vocals sound flawless, even with instrumental accompaniment, comparable to full-size speakers. Sound is not hollow at all compared to what you'd expect out of them.
Expect to enjoy any kind of music on these things, but not with both the speakers and your iPod on max volume. When the bass kicks in at that volume, the speakers do start to distort a bit and fuzz up. But these get VERY loud in general, so that isn't an issue if you're using this in your hotel room with a few people in it.
It is powered by either four AAAs or a USB cable that you can connect to a wall charger (not included) or a computer, but that just makes me wish that the cable could just recharge the speakers. :(
Build quality is meh, plastic and very light, but that's okay because they do pack a punch.
BEWARE iPod Touch users - your devices have audio jacks at the bottom, which means you will not be able to use the dock on the speakers, but that makes no big difference because you can remove the dock and just plug the iPod in via the audio cable that stretches behind the speakers.
So, not without flaws, but for two bucks, who can complain?

3Good for what I need, tray it sits in is awkwardMay 15, 2008
By D. Smith "bargain hunter"
I bought these speakers to use in my office at work. The sound quality is fine (not amazing but good for what I need). My only complaint/confusion is the tray the iPod sits in. The plug fits into the earbud jack, which we all know is at the bottom of the iPod. But when you plug it in, it will not fit in the tray like it shows in the picture. Unless I'm a complete idiot and just can't figure it out. Oh yeah, the other complaint - no directions come with it. SO, if there is a way to fit the iPod in there better, I wouldn't know it b/c nothing came with it to show you how it's done! Folding it up is easy, but you have to detach the tray to do so and there's no place to connect it once it's folded so it has to travel separately (read - easy to lose it). But, it still works fine for what I need and it was only about $8 w/ s/h. Can't beat that price.

5Amazing Value!Jan 04, 2009
By EMTP EJ "EJ"
I purchased these from the world's largest retail chain and I figured that for the price, they just could not be any good, as they were on a shelf of stocking stuffer or stuff kids buy to give to grownups they know...

These are mini travel speakers. I admit I was disappointed when I opened the box and did not find a cable to attach the speakers to my Mp3 player. What I discovered later was that the cable is attached to the device, which is nice, so you do no lose it. It is powered by AAA batteries or by a USB jack, so it might provide slightly better sound than your laptop's speakers. I am pretty sure just about everyone has better speakers attached to their PC, but these are designed for travel, and if you lose these, you will probably not cry about it.
Compare with:
PRO-POWER - Portable speakers

This set provides sound that rivals larger speakers. This product is now part of my traveling supplies and equipment!
