5Corel is back on their game!Mar 19, 2006
By DF "DF"
I have been a user since version 4. Version 4 was bad, 5 was good, 6 was terrible, 7 was great, tried 8 & didn't see the point, 9 was stable and very good. I avoided 10. 11 is very good. In Version 12 Corel had added features that made me want to go back to 11.

So now here we are on X3. Let me tell you, It has been 5 years since could say I love this program! It loads faster than 11 or 12 (and about a bizillion times faster than Adobe's Illustrator).

It seems in this version, Corel has really given it's users a good listen because the additions to this program bring draw up to a new level of "I can harldy wait to work on a new project".

Many of the improvments are simply little things in the way of navigation and shortcuts. Some, like the improved trace work wonderfully and seamlessly. You can go to corel's website to learn of the other improvments. I think you'll be pleased.

This is a designer's tool that you can purchase and use with confidence.

4Great Program ... if used in conjunction with othersJan 15, 2007

CorelDraw was my first foray into vector graphics back when version 3 showed up on my desk at the small "Mom and Pop" screenprinting shop i worked at. Back then, Corel came with OODLES of free fonts, clipart, manuals ... not to mention FREE technical support via a toll-free number.

i stayed with Corel exclusively until version 10 ... enduring countless patches, bugs and the dreaded "odd-numbered" curse (if you tried version 5 or 7, you feel my pain). Adobe Photoshop was always my photo-editing program of choice ... CorelPhotoPAINT just never quite "did it" for me.

Industry demands eventually delegated that i delve into Adobe Illustrator. Being already familiar with Adobe Photoshop's features, tools and "look and feel", Illustrator didn't present a huge, overbearing learning curve. In Illustrator, i found the same robust features as CorelDraw ... which wasn't what impressed me about Illustrator. Adobe's intuitive programs, and their ability to interact with one another ... seamlessly ... THAT is what won me over to Illustrator. Illustrator's ability to edit/create PDF's in their native format? WOW! Exporting LAYERED vector files to Photoshop ... with layers INTACT??? WOW!!! (i could go on)

Now, that being said ... there are STILL things that i prefer in CorelDRAW compared to Illustrator. The EXTRUDE function in corel is MUCH easier to utilize. The PowerClip function is more user friendly than Illustrator's "make clipping mask" function. The ability to customize/edit/add shortcut keys is an amazing feature. (again ... i could go on)

In regards to importing and exporting files from other applications, CorelDRAW wins, hands down. It boasts a ROBUST set of import and export filters, my favorite being the .eps import filter which lets you import an .eps while converting the fonts to curves DURING the import. This is a MUST HAVE if you work with an .eps file created on another computer whose fonts you lack. If i had a dollar for every .eps that pulls into Illustrator with fonts blown out ... i'd be independently wealthy. WHY Illustrator has never implemented this is beyond me.

So, to sum it up ... CorelDRAW is a great program ... but i can't imagine it being my ONLY vector drawing program. Just like in real life, you need a great team. This program, paired with Adobe Creative Suite, meets my needs perfectly.

5CorelDraw X3 UpgradeMar 10, 2006
By DesignerMom
Have had versions of Corel since before they were numbered--Adobe products didn't yet exist for PCs. So, despite the Adobe fanaticism of recent years, I still stand by this product as perfectly capable in professional design environment. And, it can handle multiple page documents--still something AI cannot. The import/export interfaces have improved. New fonts are now in Open Type format. PDF conversion is amazing with lots of control and support to X-1 and X-3 levels. And you get all this for hundreds less than Adobe. Of course, one could still keep CS on board to keep clients happy ($$$new or $older version/used/academic), but I still chug along happily in Corel and just convert file format to keep the peace.

5Incredible Value - Powerful SuiteFeb 23, 2006
By Wor-El
As a professional graphic designer who has been using this suite since version 2, and who also works daily with Adobe's CS2 programs and Studio 8, I'd recommend this software to anyone. It's simply a fantastic rendering tool that is VERY fast and allows total freedom in creating complex images, especially those that combine vector and bitmap elements. In fact, CorelDraw's insane versatility is what opens it up for criticism from the pedantic Adobe evangelists, who claim it creates files that can't be printed. I'm sorry, but as long as printers can handle reproducing a photo, they can handle anything created in CorelDraw... it just has to be prepared properly. I prefer to have the freedom to create almost anything I can imagine, painlessly. This software is capable of that. Users of Corel's Painter program know that this is a company that delivers. I wasn't crazy about version 12, but this one seems to be great, right out of the box. If you're designing letterhead, Illustrator is great. If you're designing catalogs, stick to InDesign (even though CorelDraw allows for multiple pages). But if you want to render a three-dimensional, photorealistic car that blows away your client, use CorelDraw.

5GET THIS SOFTWAREFeb 15, 2006
By SKH
If you are a corel draw user, you will LOVE this upgrade. i have stuck with version 9 b/c i found 10 & 11 to be not worth the trouble (i never tried 12). 9 was fast, easy and the best version of corel graphics i've used to date... that is, until i got X3. i could go on and on but i'll spare you the blathering. just trust me on this one.

If you have not used corel graphics in the past, you need to get on board. corel is intuitive, highly customizable, and about as powerful of a graphics package as you can get. MUCH more capable than illustrator and paint is just as powerful as photoshop with features you won't find there. switching over can be a little frustrating b/c the terminology is a little different, but the advantages are WAY worth the learning curve.
